In our society today we call everything that is wrong by other names. We call homosexuality an alternative lifestyle. We call adultery having an affair. We call stealing a misappropriations of funds. We call abortion freedom of choice. We call lies fibs and little falsehoods. We call hate an aversion to another person. We call everything that is wrong and against God anything and everything but Sin.

Sin has become an offensive word. We can discuss things like rape, murder, and violence against one another. We can give statistics on adultery, unwed pregnancies, and divorce. We can show facts on drug addictions, violent assaults, AIDS, and HIV numbers. We are not concerned with greediness, selfishness, lustfulness, jealousy, hatefulness, drunkenness, and anger just to name a few. We need to face the truth and call these things what they are and that’s Sin. The word sin means to oppose or rebel against God, (Joshua 1: 18; 1 John 34)

When a doctor diagnoses a disease after a physical examination, we do not accuse him of trying to stop us from having fun or hinder our freedom. Because you believe he is trying to help you. He must expose the problem. Sin is a disease of the soul that destroys your life and relationship with God. Sin is a process that leads from spiritual death to physical death.

Sin is the problem of every human being. Every person thinks he or she can handle it. Like the lawyer that asked a prisoner in a court case. “Do you wish to challenge any of the jury?” The prisoner said, “Well, I think I could lick that little fellow on this end.”

Sin can not be handled by us it can only be handle by God. Sin has three categories: Imputed sin, Inherited sin, and Inside sin. Imputed sin is the sin that is passed down from Adam to all of mankind, (Romans 5:14-21). Inherited sin is the sin passed down from your grandparents to your parents to you to your children, (Romans 7:5; 8:5-8). Inside sin is the sin that is within you, that does wrong without outside influence, (Colossians 3:5-11).

These three levels of sin are in everybody, (Romans 3:9 20). Jesus’s redeeming work on the cross is for these sins. He died, and was buried and was resurrected for any one who believes it’s for their sin. You must believe in Him and His work in order to cleanse you of your sins.

So how are you dealing with your sin? Have you thought about the consequences of not dealing with your sin? Let God diagnose your sin and call it what it is – Sin.
“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins,” (Hebrews 9:22).
