Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men
that they may see your good work and glorify your father in heaven.” What does Jesus
mean? He means live in such a way that others can see God through how you live.
Now in case you don’t know, it is impossible to live the way God
wants you to without Christ. Why, because God is holy and we are
not. The bible tells us Jesus Christ is the light of the world. St. John 8:12, Jesus said “I
am the light of the world…”
If you don’t have the Light (Jesus Christ) living in you, then
you cannot possibly live (Shine) in a way that is pleasing to God.
Why? Because Christ Jesus is God the Father’s only provision to
righteousness. Jesus said in St. John 8:29, ” for
I always do those things that please Him.”
Now think, if Jesus Christ always does the things that please
God the Father who should you be trusting? Do you have the ability
to live your life completely in such a way that would please God
on your own? The answer is No.
The light of God can only shine in you through the work of Christ
on the cross. Deep in your heart who do you say Jesus Christ is?
What is your response to his death, burial, and resurrection? Do
you realize that deep in your heart you have been rejecting Him.
Are you willing to settle the matter of your eternal destiny?
Will you consider your eternal future? Will you do it today? First
realize that you have a sinful heart that is fighting and rebelling
against God. Repent of this and all your sins and recieve Jesus
Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
Accept by faith the substitutionary death of Christ in your place.
Remember this from now on that He took your place and now, He has
given you His life to live through you. So let your light burn
bright ( so shine ) before others that they may see your good works.
Now after you are born again the words Jesus said will make sense
when you read the bible. He said, “You are the light
of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor
do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand
and it gives light to all who are in the house,” Matthews 5:14,15.
The house is the world and God is asking you to help others see
by letting Him shine through you. Let your light so shine. ‘Let’
is a small word yet it is so powerful. Allow God to work through
Christ in you so burn bright.
Speaking of shining and seeing there once was a little boy named
Johnny that loved participating in sunday school. The Sunday school
teacher was describing how Lot’s wife looked back and suddenly
turned into a pillar of salt.
“My mother looked back once while she was driving,” contributed
little Johnny, “and she turned into a telephone pole.” St.
John 1:9 says, “Jesus the true light which gives
light to every person.” Three principles to help you shine and remember
to burn bright are taken the passages below.
1 John 1:5-7 God is Light
1). Declare the light (v5)
2). Decide to let the light (v5,6)
3). Do the light (v6,7)
If you would allow Christ to live His life through you then you
will be letting your light so shine. Let Him burn brightly. Just
like a filament inside a light bulb which allows the electric current
to flow through it enough to illuminate and give off light. Let
Christ so shine.
There are only two things – light and darkness . Which one
are you?
