In Matthew 7:24-29, there is a story told by Jesus concerning the construction of two houses. One house is built upon a rock foundation and the other upon a foundation of sand. Everything built on a house is built on it’s foundation. The foundation is the base and support in which everything else will come to rest upon.

Luke 6:46-49, Jesus says, “Why do you call me Lord and do not do the things which I say?” If we call Jesus Lord why is it we don’t obey Him? Luke also tells us that the person that built his house on the rock prepared by digging deep and laying a rock foundation.

Question, Are you digging deep to put in place a strong foundation for your house? The house is your life. Everyone will be building a house. The question is what kind of house are they building? A house for God is on the rock foundation and the house for self or the world is built on sand.

James 1:22-25, says hearers of the word are doers. James is asking us as believers to be doers. To be or not to be that is the question? Luke 6:46, Jesus asked, “And why call you me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

Don’t merely listen to the word and deceive yourselves. Do what it says! Anyone that listens to the word but does not do it is like a person that builds his house on sand. But the person that listens to the word and does it is like the person building his house on a rock foundation.

Do you know anyone that is building a house with the hopes and expectations of it falling down to the ground? Do you know of anyone or heard of anyone that is spending lots of their money in the construction of a home with hopes of it falling down?

Would you like to pay your home off and days after your last payment your house tips and falls over flat? Matthews says anyone that is living their life on anything else other than Christ’s work and word is hoping for destruction of their life.

Jesus says anyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock foundation. But anyone that does not do Christ’s words and puts them into practice is foolish because their house is built on a sand foundation.

Note- Both houses experienced a Storm with Three conditions.

  1. Rains came Down
  2. Streams rose Up
  3. Blow against Sides

The storm hit from all directions down, up, and against Sides. The rains came down and the streams rose up, and the winds blew and beat against the sides of the house. God is telling us that storms symbolize problems as a result of sin. Problems are going to come in life. Death of loved ones, health problems, financial needs, drug addictions, diseases and a endless list of other things come against you in life.

When problems do come against you the question is are you resting on the rock of Christ? Are you resting on sand? The house that is built on sand is headed for a great crash. Preparation can prevent the house from this great crash. Building your life on Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection for your sin is the solid rock foundation.

If you are trying to live your life the best you can and have never trusted Christ as your Saviour then your resting on sand. Stop trying by self effort and trust christ and what he did. Stop trying and trust God!

You have a choice, it can be your way or God’s way. Two ministers resolved their doctrinal conflict when one told the other, “Look what are we fighting over? We’re both striving to do the Lord’s work.” Other minister response, “OK what do you suggest?” The first minister, ” You do it your way and I’ll do it His way!”

In Matthews 21:28-31a, Jesus gives us a parable of two sons. He says, there was a man who had two sons. He went to the first son and said, “Son, go and work today in my vineyard.” The first son respond, ” I will not,” but later changed his mind and went.

Then the man went to the other son and said the same thing, “Son, go and work today in my vineyard.” The other son answered, “I will,” but he did not go. Jesus then asked his listeners, “Which of the two sons did what his father wanted?” Answer, the first.

God is asking you to make a decision about the kind of house you are going to build? A house on rock or sand? God is asking the world to believe on His Son, Jesus Christ and listen to him. The bible says who ever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, Acts 2:21.
