If some one came to you and asked you if you are a Christian? What would you say? If you answer them by saying “yes I am a Christian”, what would you say to them about how you became a Christian? You need to think about your answer and how your beliefs reflect how you really feel.
What has been done to qualify you for going to heaven? What did you do? What did someone else do? Why did something have to be done? These questions must be answered by every decision making human on the planet. Well, understanding sin is the first step to understanding the answers to these questions.
What is Sin? And what is the difference between Sin and Sins? The truth is made very plain in the Bible. 1 John 1:8,9, “If we say that we have no Sin , we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our Sins , He is faithful and just to forgive us our Sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Sin then is singular. Sins are plural.
Sin then is the old nature that is concerned about self more then God. Sin is the defiant inside condition of the heart. Sins are the actions outside the heart done by your body. Sin is one. Sins are many. Sin is the fallen condition of a person passed down by Adam. Sins are those same fallen conditions carried out into actions by that person.
Sin is hidden from sight. Sins are seen and are obvious. Sin is the driving force unseen in the heart. Sins are the clear evident actions in the person’s conduct. God and Sin are mutually exclusive, meaning they both can not stay in the same place at the same time.
God cannot tolerate sin in His presence. Sin will never enter God’s kingdom (1 Cor. 6:9 and Revelation 21:27.) Where does going to Heaven begin? Most people want to start with Jesus Christ. But that is not the starting point. The starting point is seeing Sin.
After seeing Sin in your heart then comes the solution for sin, Jesus Christ. Sin is open defiance against God. Sins are the displayed actions of the heart. Leon Tucker in his, “Studies in Romans”
states these differences.
“Sin is the character; Sins are conduct.
Sin is the center; Sins are the circumference.
Sin is the root; Sins are the fruit.
Sin is the producer; Sins are the product.
Sin is the sire(parent);Sins are his offspring.
Sin is the fountain; Sins are it’s flow.
Sin is what we are; Sins are what we do.”
Sin is inside. Sins are manifested outside. Read Mark 7:20-23, It is sinful corrupt thinking that defiles you. From within a person’s heart come evil desires, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustfulness, envy, pride, and all kinds of sins. All these vile things come from within; they are the result of your sinful nature. They make you unacceptable to God.
Now do you know the difference between Sin and Sins? How have you dealt with your Sin? Have you acknowledged that you are a sinner to GOD?
