What are some of the things you have chosen lately? Is there something you’ve selected in the past that has affected your future, right now? If you have been reading these articles you know that a person always have choices.
Choices in your attitude in how you are going to feel and respond. Choices to complain or be thankful. Choices to covet or be content. Choices to be critical or love. Choices to doubt God or have faith in Him.
Regardless of what is happening there is one thing that all of us as humans have and that is the power of our choices. We are able to choose many options in every thing we do. We have a choice in how and what our response will be.
We choose what to eat, what to wear, how to look, and how to behave. We choose our attitude and the direction in which we will take it. We choose our response to everything regardless of what it is. It is completely our choice.
It takes a conscious effort to regularly choose the things of God. Without the power of the Holy Spirit through Christ there will be no ability to choose correctly. Without Christ there will be no ability for you to choose those things that please God.
You see, my friend, we are created in the image of God and making choices is one of those benefits. God’s choices are unlimited because he is infinite. Our choices are limited because we are finite.
Like Adam and Eve we have the ability of free will to choose (Choice). Before making a decision we must think (Cogitate). Then look at all the options (Consider). But in our choices there is always results (Consequences). The Lord will bless us (Commendation) or discipline us (Chastisement).
Principle illustrated:
1]. Choices
a). Cogitate & b). Consider
2]. Consequences
a).Commendation or b).Chastisement
We choose our attitude and the direction in which we will take. We choose our response to every thing regardless of what it is, it’s completely our choice. Selecting how we will react to everything is based on us.
The consequence however is God’s. The consequence based on our choice is completely in God’s hand. We have control of our Choice, but God has control of our consequence.
In Genesis God chose to pick Abraham and make a nation from him; this was Gods’ sovereign selection. No one can know that reason but God Himself. I believe that once Abraham understood that it was God that picked him apart from anything He did, he began to respond out of thankfulness to live for Him. His choices and selections changed.
How do you know if you are making the right Choices in life? Answer, the Word of God. We should ask ourselves, “What does the scriptures say about the choice or decision we are making or will make?
We should remember our response, our attitude, and our beliefs in accordance with Christ.
1]. control Your Response
2]. check Your Attitude
3]. commit Your Beliefs
The only way any Christian can learn to make sound Godly choices is by living the exchanged life. Exchanging their life for Christ’s life. Jesus said come unto Him and learn from Him. Take up His yoke because His yoke is easy and His burden is light, Matthew 11: 28,29,30.
Christ does not worry, nor is He troubled, nor distressed. How does He respond to situations like the one your are experiencing? Simply abide in Him. St. John 15 chapter says to Abide in the Vine, and that vine is Christ.
Not by our efforts and struggles but by His freely giving us all that is needed to choose things His way. When a plant bears fruit it simply abides in the vine in silence and in being connected. Fruit appears as a result of just abiding.
I have learn that when we don’t abide in the Lord, the fruit that appears in our life is thorns and thistles. We choose things that are not pleasing to the Lord and therefore produce worthless fruit.
Expecting bad choices to turn into good results is like the patient and the doctor that was talking. “Doctor, will I be able to read with these new glasses?” Asked the patient. “Yes of course,” said the doctor. The patient response,”Good”! I never could read before.” Expecting good things to come from bad choices, just will not happen.
When you don’t choose Christ and His work you choose thorns and thistles. Many people’s lives reflect bad fruit. Bad attitudes, bitter anger, hostile reactions are just some of the bad fruit your life will produce.
How then, can a Christian bear fruit? Answer by yielding to Christ and His Word. Stop Trying (your efforts) and Trust (Christ way). Abiding in Him, exchanging His life for your life.
Galation 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live yet not I but Christ in me and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
We need to learn to choose everything Christ way. The hidden secret is He will live His life through you, when you let Him. Based only on what the Word says. Not your will be done, but His will be done. Choose Christ!
Have you chosen Him? Have you selected Him to be your substitute for Sin? Think about it, “what have you chosen?”
