In Mark 4:36-41 and Luke 8:22-25 there is a story about faith that Jesus teaches us. One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out. On the way a cross, Jesus laid down for a nap and while he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp their boat. They were afraid and in real danger.
The disciples woke him up shouting, “Master, Master we are going to drown!” So Jesus rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm! Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”
And they were filled with awe and amazement. They said to one another, “Who is this man that even the winds and waves obey Him?” The question from this story is ask by Christ, “Where is your faith?”
Each and every person need to ask themselves this basic question, Where is my Faith? Is my faith in Christ? Am I really trusting Him? Faith is more then just believing. It is trusting our very lives in what we believe. That belief should be in God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
Faith says yes to Christ and His work on the Cross. Faith in Christ says that you are willing to trust Christ with your very life. Faith in Christ says even in the face of danger and trouble you will still believe and trust Him.
Believing God will always work it’s way out to how you behave. Like the husband that said “it would be fun to go to the Holy Land and stand on Mt. Sinai and shout out the Ten Commandments?” His wife replied, “it would be better if you stay home and kept them.”
That is what Jesus expects us to do, listen to his commands and trust and obey Him. Three points can be taken from this story today. The Word Commanded, a Worried Commotion, and the Worthy Correction.
1]. Word Commanded
2]. Worried Commotion
3]. Worthy Correction
First, the Word was commanded. At the beginning of the story do you recall Jesus said, “Let us go to the other side.” Which means if they had been listening to the Lord they would have known that they where going to make it through the storm to the other side. He said the word and commanded them to go. Do you believe
Christ has saved you and is able to fulfill His promises to you.
Second, worry and commotion developed. They should have relaxed because Jesus relaxed and even took a nap. Instead they were worried at the commotion of the storm. They should have trusted the Lord more because Jesus was also on board the ship. If you are in the storm of life, relax don’t worry because Jesus is there with you.
Thirdly, the Lord is Worthy and can make all necessary Corrections. Jesus will help you realize where your faith should be and that is in Him (only). He is the only one worthy and able to make the corrections to troubles in life. He can calm the storms in your life. After the storm Jesus asked them and is now asking you, “Where is your faith?”
Note that He directed their attention back to Himself. Every ones focus should always be on Christ. When He is seen for who he really is, then you will respond with awe and amazement at Christ. The question is, “Where is your Faith?”.
