Have you ever felt that something has happened that seemed to have no purpose or reason? You ask yourself why did that have to happen to me or them? Why death? Why divorce? Why pain? Why suffering?

Why is there hate? Why tornadoes? Why earthquakes? Why shootings? Why murders? Why is there corruption? Why do children die? Why are you poor? Why are they rich? Why God don’t you do something? Why God won’t you tell us why? Habakkuk 1:2,3 asks “how long will you not hear?”

The answer to the question of why there is so much wrong in this world is Sin. “As by one man sin entered the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned,” (Romans 5:12). Sin makes every person think and act contrary to what God wants.

Therefore it is hard to understand what God is doing, for He is Holy and we are not. A short story that might help us understand this is one of a father coming in many nights to take his son out of his warm bed.

The father rushed in and grabbed his son and took him down into a place underground. He took him from his comfortable bed and took him down into a cold damp uncomfortable shelter under ground. The boy did not understand what his father was doing.

The boy was perplexed when he first experienced these things. The father did not stop and explain to the boy why he was doing this. But as the boy got older he came to understand that it was for his protection against tornadoes. It was for his benefit no matter how he felt.

The same way the little boy did not understand what his father was doing because he was too young is the same way with us not understanding why God does what He does. We are immature and in need of spiritual growth.

So let us see all that we are experiencing is for our spiritual growth. God is always watching and everything is seen by Him. God sees and allows things we don’t understand now in the present. But after time and eternity end, we as perfect saints will understand why.

Meanwhile, many things that we experience now will take faith and trust in the Lord. God is doing them whether we comprehend them or not. You may ask, Why does God allow the things He allows? Answer: I don’t know, I am not God. God has his own sovereign reasons.

God knows why? Thank God for doing what He is doing because it helps you and me to grow up. Read Ephesians 5:20. Being thankful helps us to be mature in Christ. It allows us to increase how faith regardless of what we are experiencing.

What is most important is that we operate by faith. If we operate by feelings we will fail but if we operate by faith, then we will flourish. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” According to the Bible, physical seeing is not believing.

You may ask why should I obey God? Why should I do what God wants? Well I say it’s for a blessing. You have to be out of your mind to want to disobey God. Like the women that was working at a furniture store liquidation sale. She was accepting fairly low bids at this sale.

A man looking around proved to be particularly a tough customer. He pointed to a couch that originally cost $1,000 dollars marked down to $300 dollars. The man said loudly, ” I’ll give you $20 dollars for it.” The woman said, “Sir, we are going out of business, not out of our minds.”

One reason why God does allow things to happen the way they happen is because He is holy. God allows everything to happen the way they happen because of His big plan of saving the lost and building his kingdom. God is redeeming people for his glory. Those that will be saved, He is conforming to be like Christ. Romans 8:28.

One reason why we disagree with many of the things that happen is because of our relationship with God. If we are not right with God, how can we expect to understand what God is doing and allowing?

Ask yourself am I right with God? Have I repented of my sin against Him? Have I trusted Christ’s work on the cross for my Sin? The following are some of the bibles recommended steps to understanding why. Apply these principles taken from Philippians 3:7-21. First Step is to Know God. Second Step is to Know Ourself. Third Step is to Know How to Live

  1. Know God(Phil.3:10-11)
  2. Know Ourself (Phil. 3:12-13a,20)
  3. Know How to Live(Phil. 3:13b-17)
    • right way (3:16-17)
    • wrong way (3:18-19)

Regardless of what happens as a Christian, if we would remember these three things we can not lose our direction. We will not lose our faith in Christ no matter Why. No matter Why things happen. No matter Why we feel what we feel Remember Knowing God, knowing ourself and knowing how to Live will enable you to handle the reasons Why.
