John 13:2-17

v16, 17
Verily, verily, I say unto you, the Servant is not greater than His LORD; neither He that is sent greater than He that sent Him. If you know these things, happy are you if you do them.>

Do you know and are you obeying the Savior?

v3
GOD (the SON)sent by GOD (the Father) to come (to us) from GOD (to do HIS work) went (back) to GOD (the Father).

v4

  • The SON rises from supper (humble Himself) Phillippians 2:6,7,8
  • Laid aside HIS garments (His Glory, His Splendor, His Honor, His Majesty, etc.)
  • Took a towel (Took on human form Morphe, made of sin but did not sin)
  • Girded Himself (Prepared to clean up sin completely the Father’s way)

v5

  1. Poured water into a basinEphesians 5:26; John 15:3
(Poured out His blood as the only sacrifice once for sin)
  2. Began to wash their feetJohn 15:4-14
    (Abiding in Christ)
  3. To wipe with His towel1John 1:9
    (Removal of sins)

Your response may be

  1. Pride (Don’t want to be washed)v8
  2. Perverse (Wash me all over)v9
  3. Pure (Clean)v10
  4. Pilfer [theft] (Selfishness)v10,11

How you react to Christ’s command to wash others’ feet says a lot about yourself.

Obeying with 3 types of attitude

  1. Hot Water (hate, anger, envy, jealousy, pride)
  2. Cold Water (indifference, no love, no caring)
  3. Comfortable Water (love, patience, kindness)

v12
After He had washed their feet and had taken His garments and was seated again, He said “Do you know what I have done to you?”

v13
Jesus said, You call me Master and Lord, you say well; (because) for so I AM.

v14
If I (did this) wash your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet.

v15
I (Jesus) have given you an example that You should do as I have done to you.

The question is are you going to obey and wash others’ feet?

Maybe you cannot obey because you are not saved?

If you are saved, what is the problem you cannot obey?
