On the Fourth of July in America we celebrate as a nation our independence from England. On the Nineteenth of June we celebrate the belated news that came to Texas that slaves were now free. Somewhere in your past there should be an independence day from your Sins against God, if you are a Christian.

Every Christian or everyone that says they are born again should have a time or period of independence from Sin. There should be a time in which the new life of God should have started to dwell in your heart.

Just as there was a physical birth one day and you were born, you existed. There is also a spiritual birth when you are born from above a new creature, 2 Cor. 5:17. Do you recall that day? Do you know when or if you have been born spiritually?

If you cannot recall a time of ever being birthed by God spiritually then you need to ask the Lord to help you see if you have or have not been born from above. Every born again believer needs to clear this fact up in their mind.

When a person has cleared this up in their mind, then he or she can now know for sure who to live for. Just like no one can undo their physical birth. No one can undo their spiritual birth. It’s all God’s doing.

Once a person has been born then they cannot be unborn. There is no way of changing their existance. No matter how long they may live, whether it’s for 5 minutes or 110 years they will have existed. My wife and I have children that will always be our children because of their birth.

Physical baptism in the church is a outward sign of obedience that a person has been born again. Baptism is the benchmark that indicate to the world what has happened in their heart. Baptism is like the Fourth of July in the life of a Christian.

When that person has trusted Christ as their Saviour, they then have a point of existing where according to the Bible they never existed before. When Christ Jesus convince their heart to trust Him and His work.

When Jesus Christ went to the cross on Calvary and died and was buried and was resurrected, there began a new heavenly holiday forever. The Independence Day was set for all who would believe. God’s Independence Day for people was forever established.

Now if you have not made a decision about who Christ is then you being stupid. Stupid like this couple. A man walked into the house panting and almost completely exhausted. “What happened, Honey? inquired his wife.

“It’s a great idea I have,” he gasped. “I ran all the way home behind the bus and saved fifty cents.” “That wasn’t very bright,” replied his wife. “Why didn’t you run behind a taxi an save three dollars?”

Independence Day from Sin comes when a person has been born twice. What did Jesus mean when He said, “You must be born again,” John 3:7. Jesus was talking about spiritual rebirth. Born first physically, born secondly spiritually.

We need to be reborn because we are spiritually dead. Our Sin has separated us from a life giving source of God. We are all guilty and deserving God’s judgment(John 3:18-21).

What every person needs is the forgiveness and new spiritual life that Jesus made possible through His sacrificial death on the cross. The day of liberation come when that person genuinely trust in Christ as Saviour and Lord.

It is impossible to please God without Christ’s life changing power in your heart. You must have a day of independence from Sin in your life. Do you have an independence day from Sin? Have you been born with a 4th of July type day from Sin?
