Have you ever felt that God was saying no when you prayed for something? Perhaps you prayed for something you felt a great need to be answered. Maybe it was your marriage, a difficult family situation or relationship with someone that causes you pain, but God’s answer of yes never came.
Silence from God does not necessarily mean No. It may mean He wants us to wait. Anyone that has operated a windows computer program knows that when the little
hourglass symbol appears on the screen it means that the computer is working.
Therefore you must wait until it finishes it’s work.
When God does not seem to answer, it may appear as if He is not doing nothing.
But He is busy working behind the unseen. God is saying the hourglass has appeared on the screen therefore wait until the pointing arrow reappears.
Waiting on God can do much good in our lives. Never forget that God is working.
God is more interested in our character than in our circumstances. There were
many people in the scriptures who waited on the Lord. Moses, Joseph, David
and Paul are just a few that grow spiritually as a result of waiting on God.
Moses spent many years in the desert leading the children of Israel to the promised land. He was not allowed to enter Canaan because of disobedience. It was not
until he appeared with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration that he entered
the promised land (Matthews 17:1-3).
After waiting for years, Joseph saw the unfolding of God’s plan and was once again united with his family. He suffered for many years for things he did not do or cause.
A lot of times, when we have to wait on God, we find that God leads us into a place of greater opportunity and blessing than we ever dreamed possible. God is never ahead of time nor is He ever late. He knows the exact time when He will bring about our blessing. David wrote in the Psalms 27:14,
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait I say on the Lord.”
It is often the very times we feel God is doing nothing that He is doing His greatest
work. What is that greatest work that God is doing in the hearts of those he has redeemed? It’s conforming them to be like Christ. He is practicing out His life through us. Romans 8:29 states that,
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…”
Like the man that went to his regular doctor. The doctor prescribed some medication that did not seem to work. The man thought to himself, now can the doctor’s prescription be wrong. Medicine today was an exact science. He took the pills that were prescribed and went back to the doctor and told him that the medicine did not help his illness at all. So the doctor call the nurse in and said what the patient has and that the prescription was not working. The doctor ask the nurse her opinion? So they both discussed it and agreed to try another medicine. The man heard the doctor say, “maybe it will work?” So the man got a little uncomfortable. The doctor noticed him and asked about his concerns. So the man told him that he thought practicing medicine was an exact science. Then the doctor said, ” have you ever read the sign over my office door? Have you noticed what it says? It says I am licensed to practice medicine.” God is desiring to let us practice his life through us. Will we let him?
For we, through the spirit, wait for the hope of righteousness by faith, (Galations 5:5). How should we wait? We should not wait passively but should actively be doing God’s work. We should ask God to keep us trusting in Him. We must continue praying, telling Him our concerns, and we must be obedient to what
God tells us to do. We should also remind ourselves of times past when God
made us wait.
When we waited good results happened. We must remember that the Lord may be protecting us until the right time comes to grant our desires. “Our souls wait for the Lord: He is our help and our shield,” (Psalms 33:20). Patience carries a lot of wait. After praying and getting no answer Wait, God is working.
