If I were to ask you what you own and possess, what would you say? Would you give a list of items you physically have? Or would you give a description of qualities that make up your character? Would you state your inner values? Is your worth related to the things
that you possess?
Think about your answer because it will reveal what is important to you. Matthews 6:21, “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.” Whatever is important to a person is where that person’s resources and efforts will be used. If they like racing cars then they will be found doing things related to racing cars. If they like video games, they will be found playing and using a video game.
Luke 12:15, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Possession of things does not reflect a person’s true value. Coveting things or people will only lead to disappointment. The Lord warned us that our life was more then the things we own.
Speaking about things we own reminds me of the sunday school teacher that asked, “If I sold my house and my car, or had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would I get into heaven?” “No! the children all answered.
“If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into heaven? Again, the answer was, No!” “Well”, the teacher continued, “then how can I get to heaven?” A 5 year old boy shouted out, “You gotta be dead!”
Deading to self and living to God is the only way to realize the real worth. God wants you to assess yourself to see what of value do you really own? Christ wants you to have his perfect life will you accept it?
If you where to make an assessment of all the things you own, what would you say is valuable? Would it be the things such as houses, cars, or clothes? Would you say that your bank account or savings is the most valuable thing you have?
Take a good look at your thinking, your desires, and your conduct then you will see what you value. Your values are revealed in these three areas because they show your attitude, your aspirations, and your actions. They are the result of your mental, spiritual, and physical personality.
- Your Attitude (Thinking) [Mental]
- Your Aspirations (Will) [Spiritual]
- Your Actions (Conduct) [Physical]
If Christ is not allowed to control these three areas then it will be controlled by Sin. Everything that is not of Christ will have very little value and importance. So consider your values and what you really have?
It is said in Texas that ownership is nine tenths of the law. What a person owns is what that persons values. Can you say you are God’s possession? Can you say that you are willing to do whatever God says and wants from you? God (The Father) wants everyone to believe in His Son Jesus Christ (St John 6:29,39).
Have you obeyed Him? While all the earth is God’s possession (Exodus 19:5, Deut. 10:14). He only wants the finish work of Christ to be ressurrected in our life. Christ is the only one to ever please the Father (St John 8:29), therefore if you or I want to please the Father we need Christ.
If you or I want to please the father we need to let Christ life be lived through us. We are his workmanship created for good works (Ephesians 2:10). If you have trusted Him for your Sins, you are His personal possession through Christ.
Are things really fulfilling your inner needs? Ask yourself what do I really own? Is your life now his personal possession?Look at your life and ask yourself, What do you really have?
