Jesus said Christians are to be the Salt of the earth and Light of a city. (Matthew
5: 13,14,15,16)
” Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost
his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick;
and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

When others see you, what do they see? Do they see actions of good or actions of evil? Do they see heaven or see hell? You are influencing some one in your life no matter who you are. There is someone you live, work, shop or go around regularly that you have some kind of influence over.

Knowingly or unknowingly, there is some kind of influence. You will either influence them for God or influence them away from God. You will influence them
for good or for evil. Your presence will effect them for one way or the other.

Jesus said, if we are His then we are Salt and light. Salt preserves and gives flavor in seasoning food for taste. Light is needed to see by, it displaces darkness. Both are examples of what God wants us to us to be like.

“Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Luke 14:34,35.) “Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” (Mark 9:50b.)

In being light, God has asked us to let Him shine, because He is the light, (St. John 8:12.) St. John 1:5-7, says “this is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness
at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as
He is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Influencing others can be like the son asking his father questions. “Daddy, I want to ask you a question,” said little Justin after his first day in Sunday school. “Yes son, what is it?” “The teacher was reading the bible to us all about the children of Israel building the temple, the children of Israel crossing the Red sea, the children of Israel battling the Philistines, and the children of Israel making sacrifices.” The
son asked, “Didn’t the grown-ups do anything?” God wants us to be mature and behave like grown-ups. Mature saints influence others into trusting Christ as their
Savour.

In Jesus’ earthly ministry one of His major emphasis was influencing others. Another way to look at it is discipleship. Jesus was observed and seen by large multitudes as well by small private individuals. Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20.)

All of us have a circle of people we influence in our life. A sphere in which only that person can influence a certain number of people in which they come in contact  with. Everyone has a sphere of influence. The question is are they influencing others for Christ or for the Devil.

John the Baptist was known for turning many people to the Lord (Luke 1:16.) How many people are you influencing to turn to the Lord? You can live in such a way
that will draw people to the Lord or in such a way that will drive people away from the Lord. What kind of relationship do you have with others? Every human life effects others lives around them. No one is isolated to themselves. No matter
who you are or where you live, your life will effect other lives around you.

If you are single it will effect your friends. If you are married it will effect your spouse and family. If you are a child, it will effect your parents or classmates.
Everybody has some kind of effect on others around them.
