Do you feel it to be a privilege to do what God ask you to do? Do you think it’s a wonderful advantage or favor to do what God commands us to do? No, well I am not surprised because most of the world does not feel it to be a privilege to obey God. Most people do not feel it a privilege to do something for God.

It’s funny how a $100 “looks” so big when you take it to church, but so small when you take it to the mall. Funny how long it takes to serve God for an hour, but how quickly a playoff team plays 60 minutes of basketball. Funny how long a couple of hours spent at church are, but how short they are when watching a movie.

Funny how we get thrilled when a hockey game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time. Funny how hard it is to read a chapter in the bible, but how easy it is to read a magazine. Funny how people want to get a front seat at any game or show, but scramble to
get a back seat at church services.

Funny how hard it is for people to learn simple bible verses well enough to tell others, but how easy it is for the same people to understand and repeat gossip. Funny how we believe what the newspaper says, but question what the bible says.

What seems to be the funniest thing of all is yet the saddest thing for us because we do not want to surrender to God. People do not consider it a privilege to obey God. To obey and do God’s will is mankind’s highest privilege. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments,”(John 14:15).

A Privilege is defined as a special right, advantage or favor given to someone who does not deserve it. God in His great mercy allowed us the privilege to live for Him and go to heaven only if we would believe in His Son Jesus Christ.

When mankind sinned (through Adam) everyone afterwards has received a fallen sinful nature. When Adam and Eve sinned, ever since then mankind has been off the main track of God’s will. We are all sinners not deserving anything from, only His wrath, (Romans 3:9-20,23).

When a person does not want to obey God nor consider it a privilege to obey God then that person is sick because of Sin. Just simply not wanting to obey God showes how messed-up that person is. Wanting to obey God should be a person’s highest privilege.

Abraham had the proper response in obeying God. Hebrews 11:8, “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would recieve as an inheritance. And he went out not knowing where he was going.” This affirms that Abraham had an obedient heart. He must have thought it to be a privilege to obey God.

Abraham worship God with all his heart. “And there [in Shechem] he built an altar to the Lord who had appeared to him,” (Genesis 12:7). Everywhere Abraham went he built an altar to worship the Lord. He constantly had a fresh encounter with God throughout his Life. Not an old blessing, but a new blessing from God regularly.

When there is not a desire to obey God then sin is present. The sin of pride or the sin of my will instead of God’s will. Not considering it the highest privilege already showes there is a deep seated problem inside that person.

Philippians 3:7 through 19 showed us three points for Victory in understanding a person’s attitude toward obeying God.

[1st]. We must Know God (Phil.310-11)

[2rd]. We must Know Ourself (Phil. 3:12-13a).

[3rd]. We must Know How to Live (Phil. 3:13b-17). These three of Knowing God, Ourself, and How to live will help us to obey God gladly.

If you really understand who God is when he ask you to do something you will gladly want to do it? If you know God you will want to obey Him. But if you do not know Him you will not want to obey, (Exodus 6:7).

If we don’t know ourselves then how can we know God and what he wants? Knowing yourself is the second most important step to put action into obeying God. Do you have the same heart that God has? Then are you obeying Him? Do you know where you stand with God? Are you His friend or foe? To understand what
God desires comes through knowing how he has made you.(2 Cor. 13:5).

If any person plans to obey God then they must know how to live. The knowledge of what God desires must be known through God’s word before obeying Him can take place. What does the Bible say about how a christian is to act? Their behavior should be first on their minds. They should know what is a sin and what is not.

So all people should consider obeying God as the highest privilege. Most of all Christians should want to obey God regardless of their feelings. what do you think? Do you feel it is a privilege to be asked by God to do something for Him? Do you feel it is your highest privilege to obey GOD? If not, why don’t you?
